Russia

The name “Russia” evolved from earlier terms referring to the East Slavic state. Initially, it was known as Rus’ (Русь), and later as the “Russian land” (Русская земля). In English, the medieval state centered around Kyiv is often referred to as Kievan Rus’, while the Russian Tsardom and Empire were also known by the name Muscovy.
